I think point 1 is super important. Regular publishing is probably the single biggest factor in getting people back to your blog regularly...
My recent post About Me

Not sure what the absolute nr 1 is from this list, but I truely think that interacting with your commentators (commentingers? Not sure ;-) ) is one of the more important things. It will keep your readers to come back, and will create a communityfeeling. This will enhance the viral effect.
My recent post Setting your goals, on short term

Hey Jared,

I agree that interaction with the people is the sole concept that will built credibility for your blog among your readers.

However quality content is another aspect that will make your readers come again and again.

The points that you have mentioned will surely help the newbies.

Jared,

Great tips! I really need to work on #3 because I try to come up with witty titles rather than good keyword optimized titles. The post that has received the most traffic on my site is a top 7 type post (guess I should take the hint).

Since my blog is just a little over two weeks old, I have not worried about a best of posts widget. I put this on my list to add to my site towards the end of the month.

Thanks,

Brad
