How Important are Blog Comments?
When I 1st started this blog I remember when I 1st got some blog comments I was very stoked and I still enjoy it and check daily for new comments. Lately I haven’t been as focused on leaving comments as I was the last couple months and my refer traffic has dropped because of it. So that why I am writing today about comments.
Leaving Blog Comments
Most of us spend time reading other blogs. It is important that you leave comments for a couple reasons.
- Leaving comments on other blogs can start a new relationship with other bloggers.
- Leaving comments can create back links which result in refer traffic
- Leaving comments let others know your thoughts
Now before I go to far make sure if you leaving comments that they have some value. Don’t just put nice post. Take a minute to tell the author why something you like or agree or disagree with in the post. Better yet ask the author a deeper question around the post. Open a conversation.
Also make sure to you have a gravatar. I keep seeing more and more people without a gravatar. I am not saying don’t comment if you don’t have one but take a 5 minutes and setup an account here it is really easy and a must do if you haven’t.
What about Comments on your Blog
It is important that you get comments on your blog. This helps for a couple reason.
- Your comments encourages me and give me purpose.
- It lets me here your thoughts
- It gives you a chance to voice your thoughts
- I have made it a habit it to visit your site and return the favor
- Another thing you want to make sure to do is reply back to the comments that are left on your blog. This helps with getting more comments and repeat comments. It shows that you not just posting but more involved with your audience. If you look at all the pro blogger they make sure to drop in and reply to at least to a couple of the comments on almost ever post.
- Some people reply to every comment some only a few. The point is you need to make sure your reading your comments and encouraging the conversation. I make it a point to check all my comments you may also get some questions so this is another good habit to get in to so you can respond. Reading like to know that your engaged.
Blog Comments Very Important
To wrap this up blog comments are very important part of your blog you want to make sure you are encouraging commenting by asking questions to your readers.
- So everyone let me hear you how important do you think comments are and why?
- How often to you comment on other blogs?
Do you reply to comments on your own blog?
I make sure to at least focus one night a week on power commenting on other blogs. I also comment throughout the week as I read other blogs and check in on my blog.

I think commenting on your blog and on other blogs is important aspect of blogging. If you don’t engage with other bloggers no one will know who you are and if you don’t comment on your blog your blog readers think you don’t care about their response. I will comment when I see a good post and yes I do reply to comments on my blog. I hit a nice mileston on my blog yesterday. Greg Ellison

Jared,
Another “nice post.”
Leaving comments is a great way to advertise your site while still providing value to the site on which you are advertising.
For example, had you not commented on Keller’s site (fresheventure) then I would probably not have found your site. Since I found your site, I now regularly visit and comment at Jeandsen’s site (earningstep) and Dana’s site (letupdate).
Leaving good comments definitely works as advertising.

Greg awesome job on 1000 comments that a good milestone. I am closing in on 500. Hope to hit 1000 before the end of the year myself. Need to do some numbers but should be able to accomplish that as most of what I done here has happened in the last 3 months.
Dana, Teen Blogger and Brad, agree comments are very important and have great results. I feel I gain more valuable visitors and make more connections from commenting. If I were a full-time blogger I would make sure this is part of my daily routine. I also enjoy reading comments and reactions sometimes more then the posts.
100% agree with you.. comments is very important for blogging . and every one need to have it on their blog

Jared, when I first start blogging I seriously got no comments. I never let it get to me and continued blogging. To this day I still get few comments but I really don’t care because the majority of comments I do get I delete anyways. I have one liners if the company isn’t beneficial then I delete it. Also sometimes my articles are so opinionates I think people are afraid to comment because I’m over protective of what people think about me.

Hey Jared,
Undoubtedly commenting somewhat plays a role in your existence in the blogosphere if you own a blog.
You develop new people’s network with whose mutual co-operation both have the chances to grow and gain.
Being aloof never got anyone anywhere and same is true with the commenting. If you are not commenting then the people of your niche won’t know about you and you will lose the opportunity to gain new readers and also lose the opportunity to showcase your quality content.

Blog commenting is a very effective way in building brand, driving traffic, and getting to know more new friends. As I believe that health relationship with other blogger would be beneficial, it may help your online business in long run. You just want to let everyone knows who you are.
When it comes to blog comment in a blog, it’s meaning that the blog is actually recognized by people, and people loves its’ content and leaves a comment. It may lead to more people leave comment in the blog. Of course, you must try to communicate with every commenters in your blog, so that they will come your blog and leave a comment again in future. It’s one of the way to keep a reader.

Hi Jared,
I’m still learning about what the best things are to do in the internet in lots of different areas … but it seems to me that leaving comments on blogs that you like is crucial during the early stages of traffic development / relationship building. I guess though that as you get more visitors to your site the balance between leaving messages and replying to messages might change somewhat due to time pressure and changing priorities.
Cheers
Will
P.S. I thought ( but might be wrong!) that you were going to be changing to a new theme??

Will,
I, too, have noticed that many bloggers comment like crazy when they are starting out, but then they almost stop completely. Maybe it is just natural to trail off on your commenting as you grow? Perhaps they just cared about the back links and not really the sense of community?
